Life Is So Short, Here One Minute Gone The Next

Recently, I saw an update about the girl I dated on Facebook. It’s been years, 3 maybe 4. I was curious about what had happened to her. To my surprise, she has a baby now. It’s so crazy so see how quickly time flies. It still felt like it was yesterday. After seeing that, I did not feel any kind of bitterness, or jealousy.

I have no regrets. I was actually very happy for her. We had both moved on, and went our separate ways. She got exactly what she wanted- marriage and kids. And I got what I wanted. Through this, I learned just how short life really is. We may not see it but when big events occur to people you know, the time seems to have raced ahead.

It still felt like it was yesterday when I was in college when 9/11 happened. Ten years went by so fast. Another 10 years will fly by. And even faster once you have kids. Before you know it, you’re 60 and wonder if you had serve God in any way.

The Bible says life is just a snap compared to eternity. So I’m very grateful that I learn this lesson when I’m young. I don’t want to be the person at 60 looking back and life and realizing that I was chasing everything the world had to offer and did nothing to advance God’s kingdom.

So Father, this is my prayer:

Whether I am rich or poor, single or married, healthy or not, that I seek to serve you and glorify you everyday of my life so that when I get to heaven, you’ll say “Well done good and faithful servant”.
